Q1: Let’s start with the common question, if you can kindly introduce yourself.
My name is David Serna and I do art.
Q2: How did you get into the field of your work?
I’ve always drawn from when I can remember. In my junior year of high school I realized I had to become an artist and took serious. 3 things really impacted my life. One was a Korean MMORPG that I loved to play by the name of Lineage the Blood Pledge. it was very original and visually stunning to me and still is. The second was the movie Princes Mononoke.. that really opened me up to a new understanding of art. The art in Story, Character, Animation, Cinematography, you name I, it’s a great film. The 3rd was a dark Anime/Manga called Berserk, it was a shocker to see something like that. its very dark and has a strong story, it was something completely different. I wanted to be part of creating a game, movie like those, something that would be remembered and enjoyed.
Q3: Do you have any current favourite artists, comic artists, photographers who may have influenced you to become the artist that you are?

List of my Influences would be 1: my experiences and 2: music

Q4: What are the main tools of your trade?
Anything really..
Q5: How was it for you to learn the process of that? Did you teach yourself, take classes or learn from other existing artist’s tutorial?
Most of being an artist is learning from practice.
I didn’t take Art serious Until senior year of High School and took art classes but when I asked for help, advice, critiques or painting techniques they never knew anything.. While looking at a collection of marvel cards that I had when I was a kid I looked up all the illustrator names of the cards and there were 2 that had sites with tutorials. Glen Farby and Dave DeVries. I sent them both an email on what materials to buy and Dave replied with a full list I still have the email.
My college professors were a big part of who I am as an artist today. Regan Dunnick, Hodges Soileau, Peter Brown, Ron Zeitler.
They taught me to be self confident in myself, my style my art. and just trust in my own style and they always encouraged me to bring out the best of me without stress but with admiration. I always wanted to surprise them with something better and better.
Q6: Do you think its possible for you to describe the process of your art style, what are the dos and don’ts, the important aspects you set yourself to achieve your style of design?
no there’s no possible way… I’m always changing and evolving and very personal, with a lot of experimentation. what looks right just looks right, just train your eye. there’s no right or wrong .
Something I do stray away from is making photo realistic work.. if I wanted a photo i would of taken a photo. A way to stay away from that is to just make sure to use brush work, texture, color and concept. Just let your hand do the work and learn to see when you have a happy mistake and keep it.
Rules are a good guideline to start off but rules are made to be broken if u want to be different
Q7: What are the biggest struggles you encounter as an artist?
Everything Between Starting and Finishing… Getting started is hard, and finishing is hard… It’s a lot of work. Making sure the work looks believable. Don’t confuse believable and photo realistic its not the same.

Q8: Do you have any other future plans that don’t involve creative art?
No.. It has to be in some from or manner creative, no necessarily drawing or painting. but I enjoy film, animation photography and modelling as well.
Q9: Do you have any personal mottos, quotes or existing quotes that motivates you to do what you love doing? Can you share it with us or provide words of wisdom from your experiences for those who look up to you?
Trust yourself first and foremost and use your personal emotions into your art to give it meaning and purpose. Think conceptual, don’t be literal, you want the person to think, stand there for a minuet and try to decipher the image.
Q10: What do you think the future will hold for all artists from all backgrounds from now?
oh wow.. I don’t know. I can’t answer that.. haha
Q11: To round off the last question, where can your fans and new fans find updated news and progress from you, – Where can we find you?
