Interview with Nfern

Q1: Let’s start with the common question, if you can kindly introduce yourself.

My name is Nichole, but I use nfern for all of my arty hobbies :)

Q2: How did you get into the field of your work?

Model Jenni Lee Cupcakes convinced me to start modelling with her. I was her escort to a photo shoot one day and she managed to talk me into dressing up and posing with her. It was really scary at first, but also a lot of fun. She has kept me going for years now and I love it!

Q3: Do you have any current favourite artists, photographers, idols, individuals who may have influenced you to become the model that you are?

I have too many favourites to name!! I have a large appreciation for so many models and photographers. My muse is definitely JLCupcakes because we are on the same creative plane. As for photographers, I am currently admiring with Ellen Von Unwerth. The photos inspire me to pursue a career in modelling and for photography, which I am starting to get into.

Q4: Your modelling portfolio shows off your incredible range of themes, was that something you had to collaborate with the photographer?

Generally, I like to try to look different in every photo shoot I do. I try to collaborate ideas with the photographer to make sure we are on the same page. Sometimes they’re my ideas, sometimes not. It only really works when both model and photographer are really into it.

Q5: From your own personal experience, is modeling a competitive business?

I think there is a lot of competition in art in general. When you are modelling or taking photos, you always want to be the best. Otherwise, I doubt anyone would be doing it. You have to have the need to rise above the rest and stand out as a unique and beautiful piece of work.

Q6: Working as a model, do you have the creative freedom to work out of the box or follow the photographers guidelines in posing? Do creative minds clash between models and photographers?

I usually just start posing and doing whatever I feel fits the scene. I have had photographers direct me and that is usually helpful. I like to ask the photographer if they can think of any other looks that they might want, just so I know we are both happy with how it turns out. I have had very few cases where our ideas clash, but it is no fun when it happens!

Q7: What are the biggest struggles you encounter as a model?

Insecurities. I am not always comfortable in my own skin. Sometimes I don’t feel like I’m good enough to work with some of the bigger name photographers, but that eventually just pushes me to do better!

Q8: Do you have any other future plans that don’t involve modeling? Would you consider working outside that field and into something new?

I am definitely trying to get into photography more! It’s scary being behind the camera, but I think it helps that I also model so I can help pose and direct better. Lately, I have been directing my husbands photo shoots. It’s fun :) Also, I have been designing tiny hats for modelling or any kind of dress up. I love making accessories.

Q9: Do you have any personal mottos, quotes or existing quotes that motivate you to do what you love doing? Can you share it with us?

If I may, I’d like to quote the great Barney Stinson: “Whenever I’m sad, I just stop being sad and starting being awesome. True story.”

Q10: To round off the interview with the last question, how would your fans and new fans be able to keep in contact with you in regards to updates, progress and events that you have in the near future?
